Apogee Interactive has named Lei Wang to the position of energy modeling engineer for the Atlanta-based company that specializes in energy efficiency Web applications for utilities nationwide.

A Ph.D. from the Georgia Institute of Technology, Wang joins a team of seasoned engineers and cutting-edge web developers that produce proprietary energy analysis software for more than 400 U.S. electric and gas utilities. Founded in 1994, Apogee is the industry’s leading provider of online energy calculators, integrated energy use and billing analysis modules, and interactive energy education for utilities and their consumers.

“We’re especially pleased to bring Lei on board to further expand our time-based energy analysis algorithms and code,” said Joel Gilbert, chief software architect and cofounder of Apogee. “Lei’s advanced training and experience in time-based thermodynamic and heat transfer modeling, coupled with his software development expertise, is a key addition as Apogee continues to experience exponential growth in the demand for its energy analysis tools,” Gilbert said.

Wang earned his doctorate in mechanical engineering from Georgia Tech and obtained a master’s and a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Tsinghua University in Beijing, China.

During his doctorial studies at Georgia Tech, Wang served as a research assistant. He became a postdoctoral fellow upon graduation. His research assignments included numerical modeling of the armature-rail interface in an electromagnetic launcher system for the Office of Naval Research.

While at Tsinghua University, Wang’s research included computational fluid dynamics simulation of continuous casting with electromagnetic effects for projects sponsored by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Baosteel Group Co. and PZH Steel Co. He directed the development of an integrated continuous casting simulation software package called Visual Cast and published two books on Dreamweaver.

Wang’s professional affiliations include the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning and the Society of Tribology and Lubrication Engineers.

Based in Atlanta, Apogee Interactive Inc. develops and hosts online energy analysis and customer self service Web applications for energy utilities. Its client roster includes investor-owned, municipal and cooperative energy companies such as Southern Company Services, American Electric Power, Entergy, Sacramento Municipal Utility District, Tennessee Valley Authority and Jackson EMC.
