The 2012 Middle East Maintenance Conference and Exhibition
(MaintCon) in Bahrain included 750 attendees from 15 different
countries, including Shaikh Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa,
Bahrain’s minister of finance and minister in charge
of oil and gas affairs, who gave the keynote
address and officially opened the conference.

The International Council for Machinery Lubrication (ICML) recently joined forces with the Gulf Society of Maintenance Professionals (GSMP) to bring machinery lubrication certification to the Persian Gulf region. Like ICML, GSMP is an independent, non-profit organization founded by practitioners to promote world-class standards in industry. While ICML focuses specifically on machinery lubrication and oil analysis, GSMP’s objective is to promote the maintenance and reliability profession in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region.

GSMP is a founding member of the Global Forum on Maintenance and Asset Management (GFMAM), which is a global association of professional maintenance and asset management societies formed for the purpose of knowledge creation and information exchange among the member societies. GSMP participates in the global forum along with other ICML-allied organizations such as the Society for Maintenance and Reliability Professionals (SMRP), the Asset Management Council (AMC) of Australia and the Southern African Asset Management Association (SAAMA).

For a number of years, ICML has had a presence in the Gulf States, offering its exams and having certified professionals in several different countries. The new alliance with GSMP will strengthen the work that is being done.

ICML executive director Suzy Jamieson and GSMP
chairman Nezar Al-Shammasi recently signed a memorandum
of understanding to formalize the cooperation
between their two organizations.

GSMP chairman Nezar Al-Shammasi and ICML executive director Suzy Jamieson formalized the cooperation between the two organizations with the signing of a memorandum of understanding during the closing ceremonies of the recent Middle East Maintenance Conference and Exhibition (MaintCon) in Bahrain.

The conference was hosted by GSMP and the Bahrain Society of Engineers (BSE), which are working with ICML in the preparation of practitioners and the offering of ICML exams in the region. ICML looks forward to the joint activities to come with this cooperation and commends GSMP for its great success and work in the betterment of industry in the Gulf region.
