As part of its ongoing commitment to knowledge sharing and best practices, a team of Dow Corning experts presented lubrication and maintenance techniques to the 76th NLGI annual meeting, June 13-16 in Tucson, Ariz.

“Dow Corning recognizes the importance of sharing knowledge and expertise with the broader manufacturing community through organizations such as NLGI,” said Dave Como, scientist emeritus for Dow Corning. “We are proud to represent Dow Corning to educate and partner with manufacturers, suppliers, engineering services and other leaders in the grease industry to streamline operations in an increasingly challenging global business environment.”

Como, a member of the NLGI educational committee and an NLGI executive board member, chaired the Applications and Maintenance course that he initiated five years ago for NLGI.

Dow Corning application engineers Chad Chichester and Glenn Lutz presented course segments on lubrication and maintenance techniques geared to attendees seeking new, cost-effective ways to reduce their bottom line while improving operational capacity.

Chichester shared lubrication techniques to maximize efficiency through the NLGI Applications and Maintenance course and the NLGI Basic Grease course that covered the principles of manufacturing and marketing greases. A 2007 recipient of the NLGI SOPUS Award for instructional excellence, Chichester draws upon 13 years as a reliability engineer to share maintenance and lubrication methods that reduce downtime, minimize maintenance and increase profitability.

Lutz served as an instructor for the NLGI Advanced Grease Education course. This advanced level course provided instruction on specific types of greases, chemistry and specialized applications, including tests, soap manufacturing, steel mill greases, silicone greases, and food-grade lubricants. Lutz focused his instruction on high value specialty silicone greases and the unique benefits they bring to the industry for solving lubrication problems.

The NLGI is a not-for-profit trade association, composed of companies who manufacture or market lubricating grease or supply to that industry. The objectives of NLGI are to disseminate information that can lead to development of better grease technology and to provide lubrication education to the industry. NLGI promotes these objectives through research, promotion of improved laboratory and field tests, and improvements in lubricating grease manufacturing techniques.
