VeroLube Inc. recently announced the development of two new used-oil re-refineries in Houston, Texas, and Alberta, Canada. Both re-refineries, which are currently under design with construction to begin in 2014, will use VeroLube's ReGen re-refining process to produce hydrocarbon products from used motor oils.
"These first two re-refineries will commence VeroLube's strategic growth plan for both the vertical integration of strategic used-oil collection companies and the development of strategically located used-oil re-refineries worldwide utilizing our patented and proprietary ReGen re-refining process," said Leslie Wulf, chief executive officer of VeroLube.
The ReGen re-refining process creates four high-quality products with 97-percent recovery from the used-oil input. Approximately 50 percent of the finished product is Group III base lubricating oil (synthetic quality) with no hydrotreating required.
"The ability for the company to re-refine various grades of used oils into high-quality products, especially Group III base lubricating oil without hydrotreating, gives VeroLube a significant market advantage over other used-oil re-refinery operations," Wulf noted.
VeroLube's used-oil re-refineries will be designed in a modular train format to allow different grades of used oil to be processed and for expansion based on the availability of used-oil feedstock.
The re-refinery in Alberta will have an initial throughput capacity of 1,000 barrels per day, which will then be expanded to 2,000 barrels per day. The Houston re-refinery will have an initial throughput capacity of 4,000 barrels per day with the ability to expand to 6,000 barrels per day.
