Wind Turbine Gearbox Oil Analysis Strategy

Oil analysis provides the foundation for any effective program to monitor the condition of lubricants and equipment, as well as contamination, in many applications. In the case of wind turbine gearboxes, oil analysis has the potential to reduce unscheduled maintenance, improve reliability and extend service life. The oil analysis tests recommended in this paper can help wind-farm operators obtain maximum value from their oil sampling program. When these tests are performed on a routine basis and the results properly analyzed, oil analysis can facilitate the maintenance of wind turbine gearboxes and support the more widespread adoption of this promising form of power generation.
