WHITE PAPER:
Steam Turbine Oil Challenges
Evidence from field performance and research studies suggest that it is possible to overcome many steam turbine lubrication issues through the selection of a well-formulated turbine oil along with an entire program to ensure successful service of the lubricant. In recent years, there has been significant attention given to varnish formation in power turbine lubricating systems. This paper describes varnish and other problems seen in steam turbines and offers suggestions for how operators can overcome them.
