WHITE PAPER:
Detecting Water in Ship Engine Oil
Too much water in the lubricating oil of a ship engine can cause wear and tear as well as a total engine breakdown. Sending oil samples to a laboratory to assess the water content takes time, preventing the ship from sailing again. Unfortunately, a reliable way for the ship’s crew to measure water content has been lacking. This paper describes why a proper measurement of water content not only should determine the oil’s water saturation level but also offer accurate information about the formation of free water along with online monitoring so necessary measurements can be taken before any damage occurs.
