Detecting Water in Ship Engine Oil

Too much water in the lubricating oil of a ship engine can cause wear and tear as well as a total engine breakdown. Sending oil samples to a laboratory to assess the water content takes time, preventing the ship from sailing again. Unfortunately, a reliable way for the ship’s crew to measure water content has been lacking.
