The Advanced Process Division of Rational Energies recently announced that it has successfully processed its first million gallons of used motor oil into Group I RE150 base oil, distillate and asphalt extender. The milestone comes just one year after the manufacturing facility was completely retrofitted.
"This is a huge milestone for Rational Energies," said Ed Driscoll, founder and chief executive officer of Rational Energies. "Our processing plant in Plymouth, Minnesota, was designed and built in 2012 to convert landfill plastic into crude oil, but the collapse of global crude oil prices led us to change course and turn another waste product – used motor oil – into valuable industrial lubricants. It’s a tribute to our production team that they were able to develop a sustainable, high-quality capacity so quickly and enable us to continue ‘transforming energy.’"
Founded in 2012, Rational Energies works with professional aggregators who collect used motor oil, test it and pre-filter it before it is delivered to the company’s advanced oil processing facility. In addition to Group I base oil and fuel, Rational Energies supplies finished blended lubricants available in totes or shipped by tanker trucks and rail cars.
