Klüber Lubrication recently introduced a new turbine oil to help increase the efficiency of hydroelectric plants. Klüberoil EE 1-46 is a semi-synthetic plain bearing oil that is formulated to reduce energy losses in generator bearings.
The high-performance lubricating oil can be used for oil-lubricated turbines and generators in all types of hydroelectric power stations, including run-of-river power stations, storage power stations and pumped storage power plants.
Featuring a low foaming tendency and high oxidation stability, the lubricant is intended to extend oil change intervals while increasing the service life of components. It also has shown compatibility with plain bearing materials and complies with the requirements of the German Institute for Standardization’s DIN 51515-2 standard.
“The turbine oil was developed in cooperation with a leading European manufacturer of hydroelectric power stations,” said Florian Held, global project manager hydropower at Klüber Lubrication. “The reduction of internal friction optimizes the efficiency loss in plain bearings.”
Klüberoil EE 1-46 represents the first product of a new series for Klüber, which currently offers a range of lubricants for hydroelectric power stations but is expected to continue expanding its product portfolio in the next few years.
